Witness: The Art of Jerry Pinkney

Tuesday, July 9, 2013

The Philadelphia Art Museum has a fabulous exhibition of drawings and watercolors by designer and illustrator Jerry Pinkney. A Philadelphia native, Pinkney won the 2010 Caldecott Medal for his picture book, The Lion and the Mouse. He has also been the recipient of  five Caldecott Honor Medals, five Coretta Scott King Book awards, and four Coretta Scott King Honor Awards. We were lucky to be there Sunday July 7th, when Pinkney was at the museum talking about his work.
Here he is giving his presentation:

And here's a young friend of ours exploring the exhibit:

“Witness: The Art of Jerry Pinkney” is on display at the Special Exhibitions Gallery, Perelman Building from June 28 to Sept. 22.  "Drawing on the Reverse Side: The Art and Life of Jerry Pinkney" is a simultaneous art show at the Free Library of Philadelphia's Central Branch.  But you don't have to make it into Philly to see his work.  Stop by the library and check out our very own Jerry Pinkney display by the Youth Services desk!
