The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate by Jacqueline Kelley
It’s the summer of 1899 and unfortunately for Calpurnia Virginia Tate, girls in her small Texas town are expected to be prim and proper. So while Callie would much rather spend hours with her grandfather in his shed doing experiments and learning about different species of grasshoppers; her mother wants her in the kitchen baking pies and learning to knit for her six brothers. This is a great book for fans of the American Girl series who are ready for something a little more challenging or for anyone who has ever wondered what it would be like to live in another time. Alia (J fiction)
