Raising a Reader: Part I

Thursday, May 28, 2009

One of the missions of Cherry Hill Public Library is to promote early literacy. Early literacy is what children know about reading before they can actually read. Early literacy can start from the time a child is born. Chanting nursery rhymes, singing songs, and reading stories can help develop language skills as well as comfort and entertain even the youngest child. Big brothers and big sisters can help too. They can act as reading buddies, sharing books with younger children. Here are a few of our favorite board books for sharing with very young children. This is just the beginning of our list. Check back, there's more to come!
