Where The Wild Things Are Party
Tuesday, October 20, 2009
To celebrate the opening of the Where the Wild Things Are movie we had a rumpus of our own. We read the book, played "pin the tail on Max", made Wild Thing costumes, and then had a parade through the upper level of the library. We made lots of noise and had a great time. Check out the pictures below!

Cookie by Jaqueline Wilson
Beauty Cookson's dad is always yelling at her about something. He's so out of control that Beauty lives half her life as a lie. She pretends to her parents that she has loads of friends, and that they all like her. But really, the girls at school make fun of her and call her Ugly. When Beauty's birthday party ends in disaster, Beauty and her Mum take off. They find themselves in an idyllic seaside resort where their new-found freedom and a moment of culinary inspiration give them a hobby, an income and even a new nickname for Beauty!

Lemony Snicket Is Back!
Saturday, October 3, 2009
That's right! Fans of A Series of Unfortunate Events will be happy to hear that a new series from Lemony Snicket is to be published by Egmont! Reports can be found here, here, and here.
Snicket said: “I can neither confirm nor deny that I have begun research into a new case and I can neither confirm nor deny that the results are as dreadful and unnerving as A Series Of Unfortunate Events. However, I can confirm that Egmont will be publishing these findings."

October Book Buzz
Fire by Kristin Cashore
This prequel to Graceling, tells the story of Fire, an eighteen year old ‘human monster’ that is so exquisitely beautiful, men find her irresistible. She also poses the power to control minds, which is an ability that can be quite useful. Fire lives in the land of the Dells where war is waiting to erupt, and thieves and spies are hiding all over the mountains and forest. Like Graceling, this book is an adventurous fantasy with romance entwined. You do not have to have read Graceling to enjoy this book, but may choose to after the story is completed. Jaclyn (YA Fiction- 7th Grade and Up)
Holes by Louis Sachar
Stanley Yelnats is sent to Camp Green Lake, a juvenile detention camp, for stealing a pair of sneakers. As for the sneakers, he didn’t steal them, they fell out of the air and landed near him, what would you do? There is no lake at Camp Green Lake; it is a dried up lake with a story. What there is, is a LOT of holes in the ground, 5’ deep and 5’ around. After a few holes, Stanley realizes they aren’t just digging holes to build character like Mr. Sir says, but to find something buried in the dried up lake. Kristin (J Fiction)
Neo Leo by Gene Barretta
Now I’m sure you’ve heard of Leonardo da Vinci, the famous artist, but did you also know that he was an inventor, engineer, and scientist as well? In fact, a lot of things that we think of as modern inventions; things like robots and artificial heart valves, Leonardo thought of first. Pick this book up to learn more about the amazing inventions of Neo Leo! Alia (J Non-Fiction)
Neil Armstrong is My Uncle and other Lies Muscle Man McGinty Told Me by Nan Marino

The kids on Ramble Street spend their time together playing games of kickball to keep themselves busy. You will get to know all he kids and especially Muscle Man McGinty the new boy who moves onto the street. He likes to tell big stories and it drives Tammy CRAZY!!! The Mostly True Adventures of Homer P. Figg by Rodman Philbrick
Homer’s older brother, Harold, has been illegally sworn into the Union Army and Homer is setting off to find him. Little does he know of what awaits him- capture by thieves, a stint in a traveling medicine show, and rides on trains, ships and even a hot air balloon! Historical fiction can be a hard sell, but this is also a fantastic adventure, full of twists and turns, it is great for boys looking for some action and even a bit of bloodshed. Meghan (J fiction)
